When page numbers matter
- Court and legal bundles usually need consistent pagination. Check the court's practice direction for where numbers should go.
- Reports and theses often skip numbering on the cover page. Tick Don't number the first page.
- Merged documents look professional with one continuous sequence. Merge your files first, then add numbers.
- Continuing a sequence: if this file follows another one, set Start at to the next number.

Frequently asked questions
Can I start numbering from a different number?
Yes. Set Start at to any number, for example 25 if this document follows a 24-page one.
Will numbers cover my content?
Numbers sit in the margin, 10 mm from the edge. If your pages have very narrow margins, choose a different corner.
Does it work on rotated pages?
Yes. Numbers are placed relative to how the page appears, so they're always the right way up.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Everything happens in your browser.
